I have two Amigos and live on a farm with a lot of acreage. The Amigo is helpful to get to the mail box. On a farm, they get beat up...but still keep on working.

Beth Thieme Named a "Top Women in Grocery"
Amigo Mobility International, Inc. is pleased to announce that Beth Thieme, CEO/VP, was named a 2009 "Top Women in Grocery" by Progressive Grocer Magazine.
Selection for the Top Women in Grocery list is a meticulous process based on nominations from within the industry and on strict criteria set out by Progressive Grocer’s team of editors. "We received more than 400 entries and it was very difficult to select the top 100," said Olivia Wilson, publisher of Progressive Grocer. "They are all very deserving in one way or another."
Last year, Thieme drove a 52 percent sales increase for the company and added new domestic and international accounts. As Amigo Mobility has been Improving Lives Through Mobility® since 1968, Thieme has also worked in her own ways to make her community a better place. She is a chairwoman of Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch, which she created in 1997 to raise awareness of frivolous lawsuits and their cost to society. She is also a board member of Guardian Angels Respite Center, has participated in the MS Society’s annual MS Walk for more than 10 years and lectors weekly at her church.
Bob Dorigo Jones, president of M-LAW says, "As a manufacturer of mobility carts aiding people with disabilities, Beth has made the shopping experience much more enjoyable, and in some cases even possible, for thousands of people around the world."
Thieme and fellow "Top Women" appear in the June/July 2009 issue of Progressive Grocer magazine and will be honored on November 2, 2009 at Progressive Grocer’s Corporate Social Responsibility Awards in Phoenix, Ariz.
"Congratulations go out to all of these extraordinary women who have made substantial strides in the grocery industry, paving the way for the next generation of businesswomen," said Wilson.

Introducing an Innovative Safety Solution...
|
|
SmartSensor by Amigo
promotes not only independent mobility –
but more importantly – safe mobility
|
Amigo Mobility President and Founder Al Thieme received a request from a continuing care retirement community located in Pennsylvania. He was asked to review the idea of a safety switch and consider adding it to the design of our products to reduce collisions with residents and staff. Amigo’s engineering team went to work, and developed SmartSensor by Amigo.
Primarily used in retirement centers and independent living centers the SmartSensor by Amigo:
- Provides residents with safer mobility
- Provides staff and visitors a safer environment
During sensor activation, the Amigo POV/scooter is safely limited to a top speed of 2.3 mph indoors and designed to avoid pedestrian impact. Detecting an individual up to 30 inches ahead, the system gently slows forward speed bringing driver to a gradual stop safe from impact.
The SmartSensor system is available on select Amigo models. This technology is a safety benefit for you or a loved about to re-locate to an independent living center. Click here for more information.

The next time you are considering the purchase of an Amigo RT or RT Jr, you'll be pleased to learn that this new wheel will find itself at the front of the Amigo. Its material consists of closed cell solid urethane with an external smooth membrane. It's a non-marking wheel with stylish tread design. The center rib offers traction when entering turns and its wide profile and matching mag wheel offer a robust appearance. This wheel is easy to clean and resists stones and dirt in the tread.
All that being said…it’s not only a good looking wheel, but will aid in the smooth performance of your next Amigo RT also!

Shhhh… Here Comes an Amigo!
|
As published in the Metropolitan Library System newsletter, the Woodridge Public Library is one of many libraries purchasing mobility POV/scooters for their patrons to use – specifically an Amigo POV/scooter.
The article says:
Susan McNeil-Marshall, Library Director, reports that patrons are delighted with the service. The Amigo scooter makes visits to the library a more pleasant experience and allows greater access to library services.
The (Amigo) scooter can achieve a speed of 5.9 miles and is fairly maintenance free. The battery had to be replaced recently, but that is virtually the only maintenance required.
Patrons with disabilities are grateful to the library for providing the POV/scooter for their convenience.
Other libraries that also purchased a POV/scooter for their patrons with limited mobility report a similar response. Lee Maternowski from the Elk Grove Village Public Library stated that their POV/scooter was purchased by their Friends Group because they felt it would be a nice service. It’s frequently in use not only by their patrons but also by patrons from neighboring libraries who use the library.

Thank you to the staff at Woodridge Library for offering an Amigo to your patrons with walking limitations.
Next time you are visiting a library in your area and might enjoy your experience more fully by the use of an Amigo, speak to the library director or head librarian. Or contact Amigo at 1-800-MY-AMIGO or info@myamigo.com, and we’ll be sure to pass your request along to your local library.
